Tiger Tattoo meaning

Tiger Tattoos have remained at the forefront of tattoo fashion universally for years. They are arguably the most tattooed animal in the world and that is all down to their beauty and meaning. The tiger tattoo has several meanings, most of which we can all relate too in some way or another.

Tiger tattoos are seen on men and women all around the world. The tiger tattoo can be shown in glorious full color in large form, as pictured above. Equally, it can be used as a subtle tattoo. Many people now opt for a small black and white tiger on the wrist or even as a detail in a sleeve tattoo design. However a tiger tattoo is done, it is usually beautiful and easy on the eye.

One of the less obvious tiger tattoo meanings has come about in more recent years. The tiger has been on the endangered species list since the late nineties and many tiger tattoos are nothing more than a note of support to the groups helping the tiger. The world is full of animal lovers and you are never too far from a support group doing all they can to save the tiger.

Now if we look at the more traditional meanings behind the tiger tattoo we will see that the tiger boasts many human qualities, qualities that we are proud to have.

In the animal kingdom tigers are associated with power. They are top of the food chain and that power and ferocity can often be seen in us as people. Like tigers, we as humans sometimes need that power to get through the rougher patches we encounter. The ferocity tigers show could also be seen as a passion, something we all have and need deep down.

The tiger is also a creature of great beauty. His gracious movements and adorable image do not match up to his actual personality. Some people use the tiger tattoo to display that same contrast in personality within themselves.

Although the tiger is one of those tattoos with meaning that you can give your own personal twist to, the tigers features remain the same. Power, Ferocity, Might, Invincibility and their good looks. No matter what tiger tattoo you choose, these characteristics will be found somewhere when you discuss what the tiger tattoo means to you.

Tree Tattoos meaning

    Tree Tattoos meaning

Trees are essential to human survival. They provide fruit, which nourishes the body, and convert carbon monoxide, a human waste product, into oxygen, essential for life. Trees provide shelter in storms, lumber for heat and construction, and shade from the hot sun, not to mention the beauty they add to a landscape. Trees have been important and significant throughout history, from the ancient Druids and Greeks to modern society and culture. Trees are long lasting and resilient. It is not uncommon for a great tree to be hundreds of years old. Trees have strong root systems and foundation that lead to strong branches and trunks. They persevere through hard winters and hot summers. They adapt to the climate and location they grow in. They are immovable and unchanging.

Tree tattoos represent all of the facets, and much more. Trees can be deeply religious and spiritual. Oak trees, for example, were sacred to both the Celts and the Greeks. The people of Germany believed the lime and linden trees were sacred, while the Lebanese favored the cedar tree. Scandinavians, on the other hand, revered the ash tree.

The tree of life is a long-standing symbol that transcends cultures. Although the specific meaning can vary from society to society, the Tree of Life stands for abundance, the Creator, strength, protection, wisdom, knowledge, sustenance, beauty, forgiveness, salvation, and growth. The Tree of Life is easily the most popular tree tattoo design. Specific types of trees, too, can have individual meanings. It is important to know the symbolism of different trees when choosing a tattoo design that features a tree or tree leaf, so that you can select the right species to best represent the exact meaning you want to portray. The following is a selection of some of the most popular trees for tattoos and their meanings.

Apple – temptation, sinfulness, magic, youth, beauty, happiness, knowledge, and learning
Ash – grandeur, greatness, sacrifice, sensitivity, enlightenment, spiritual awareness, and offering (especially to a god)
Aspen – determination, conquering fear, doubt, or scandal, lamentation, mourning, and commitment
Bay – glory, reward, honor, and deserved riches
Beech – prosperity, understanding, constructive criticism, knowledge, acceptance, and patience
Birch – rebirth, beginnings, cleansing, and renewal
Cedar – incorruptibility, protection, consistency, love, healing, and charity
Cherry – education, endurance, renewal, reawakening, new life, change, and deception
Cypress – mourning, death, sorrow, acceptance, and sacrifice
Dogwood – indifference, apathy, nonchalance, uncertainty, and questions
Elder – compassion, excitement, renewal, regeneration, whimsical, fantasy, excitement, sorrow, and change
Elm – dignity, intuitiveness, instinct, commitment, and perseverance
Fig – longevity, conflict, idleness, reconciliation, vigorousness, and overabundance
Hawthorn – contentment, happiness, hope, and the future
Hazel – wisdom, concealment, and divining
Holly – protection, edification, spirituality, faithfulness, and dogmatic
Joshua – praising, strong-willed, worshipful, and enduring
Laurel – deception, eloquence, tenacity, victory, heroism, success, and dignity
Linden – monogamy, marriage, and love
Maple – reservation, balance, practicality, harmony, and dutifulness
Oak – endurance, victory, strength, liberty, welcomeness, independence, and bravery
Palm – peacefulness, opportunity, spirituality, and contentment
Poplar – burial, death, mourning, lamentation, and the passing of time
Willow – lost love, bravado, freedom, mourning, mysticism, healing, visions, and dreams
Yew – resurrection, rebirth, faithfulness, sadness, and piety

Tree tattoos, whether realistic or stylized, can have a variety of additional meanings. Tattoo designs that feature visible roots might represent a connection to the past, a firm foundation, a grounded approach to life, strength of will, or the importance of ancestry and history. Roots provide nourishment for the tree, as well as anchoring it and keeping it secure through times of trouble or hardship. A tree must have deep roots in order to survive for any great length of time.

Tree tattoos that focus on leaves represent something more fleeting. Tree leaves of most species die every year and are reborn. They symbolize time and transitions, fragility and sacrifice. A tree leaf tattoo can show a newly budded leaf (youthfulness), a fully grown leaf (adulthood), a vibrant fall leaf (maturity and experience – positive), or a cracked, withering, or decaying leaf (maturity and old age – negative). Leaves, branches, trunk, bark, and roots are all important aspects of trees and necessary for survival. A tree tattoo can incorporate one or all of these parts.

Pinup tattoo meanings

    Pinup tattoo meanings

In the 1940s, the term 'pin-up' was coined to refer to women who were attractive and beautiful, the kind of women men would want to pin to their wall. Traditionally, most pin-up girl designs are commercial-looking and somewhat mass-produced. A the time, the Pop Art movement was underway and women like Marilyn Monroe were famous for their sexuality. The pin-up girls are poised in seductive, alluring, or coy positions. They are usually scantily clad, often showing their mid-drifts, legs, and cleavage. Backs, shoulders, and butts were also featured. Sometimes the women were comical and funny, with humorous expressions on their faces, while other times they were innocent and sweet looking, with wide-eyes and a trusting expression. It is important to note that most pin-up art was drawings and paintings, rather than photographs. Although there were real-life pin-up models, most were the creation of artists.

In the body modification community, tattoos of pin-up girls have been common since the art first became popular. Pin-ups are part of the original Old School tattoo design, perhaps the first modern tattoo style trend, dating back to the 1950s. Original vintage pin-up tattoos featured girls in a variety of sexy positions, clad in anything from swim suits to sailor outfits to bath towels. Today, pin-up tattoos usually harken back to the first era, copying the Old School design or morphing it into the popular New School style. The designs are still iconic, sexy women in alluring positions who are usually clad in next to nothing. The themes of pin-ups, however, has evolved and continues to evolve.

Original pin-ups were favored by sailors, so they often sported hula girl costumes, navy uniforms, patriotic outfits, or clothing inspired by a girlfriend or loved one, like a cowgirl or nurse. Modern pin-ups often venture into more bizarre areas. Zombie pin-ups have become quite common. These undead pin-up girls usually still look like the old ones, but are colored green, are covered in blood, or might even be rotting and decaying. Zombies have become a very important pop-culture symbol, which connects to the Pop Art birthplace of the pin-up girl.

Other pin-up variations include styles from other cultures, like geishas or Native Americans, and even from another world, like aliens, vampires, or robots. An important aspect of pin-up girl tattoos, whether from the 1950s or from today, is the style the woman is drawn in. She is usually 2-dimensional and is often colorful. Pin-up girls are typically outlined in black ink with flat representation. Sometimes, though, the designs can be black and white or involve shading and intricate detailing. Usually, pin-up girl tattoos are not realistic, even when the girl is designed to look like an actual person.

Some popular larger motif tattoos feature pin-up girls. Lady Luck, the embodiment of good fortune, is usually illustrated as a pin-up who wears symbols of gamboling and games of chance, like dice, playing cards, and poker chips. She is sometimes called Miss Fortune, too. Man's Ruin, another popular tattoo design, usually features a pin-up style demon woman who is enticing men to their destruction, seducing them and tempting them. Of course, pin-up style tattoos, considered part of the retro trend in tattooing, have become popular with more than just sailors and those serving in the

    military.

People who are interested in the history of tattoo, the origins of the art form, or those who have studied art and are drawn to aspects of the Pop Art movement might be interested in pin-up girl tattoo, either in the Old School or New School style. Unlike in the 1940s and 1950s when pin-up girls first became tattoo designs, more and more women are choosing the style for their own body artwork. Women today seem more freely able to appreciate the female form and revel in their own sexuality and erotic natures. For many women, pin-up girls represent a classic tattoo design that is still unbelievably sexy.

Lettering tattoos meanings

    Lettering tattoos meanings

In 1439, Johannes Guttenberg changed the world of literature forever by creating the printing press. Books could be printed more cheaply and were available to broader audiences. The connection some people have with books is incredibly deep and profound. Certain books from childhood become lifelong favorites. They provide comfort and peace, and reassurance in times hardship. Childhood favorites include The Giving Tree, The Velveteen Rabbit, and Where the Wild Things Are. Other popular sources for literary-based tattoos include works of poetry, from authors like e.e. cummings, Robert Frost, and Edgar Allen Poe, among others who may be less renowned.

    “Loyalty” tattoo.

Lettering and phrase tattoos are tattoo designs that are typographical. Typography is the art of designing printed fonts. Lettering tattoo designs are very interesting because they are, by nature, designed to be read. Sometimes the words are private or cryptic, and the average person would not understand them. Other times, these tattoos are quotations or selections from popular literary works and are very well known. Type faces, or the styles of the letters, can be very simple or very intricate. These text tattoos can be done in a style reminiscent of book fonts, like Times New Roman or Baskerville. Text and word tattoos can be derived from classic works, like The Catcher in the Rye, from fan favorites, like Slaughterhouse Five, and from cult classics, like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In the religious spectrum, text tattoos can be versus from the Bible.

Kurt Vonnegut “So it goes.” tattoo.

Typically, these tattoos are done in black ink. Many people attempt to recapture the look and feel of the printed word as it appears in standard books. Others are done in flowery, sprawling designs that are as much about the decorative nature of the fonts as about the actual words and meaning. Furthermore, these tattoos can be as big or as small as the designs allow.

    E.E. cummings tattoo design.

Sometimes, a single word can fill the entire back area. Other designs are incredibly small. Although not words or phrases, text tattoos can involve punctuation marks and symbols.Question marks, exclamation points, semi colons, and ellipses. These tattoos usually convey a love on English or grammar, without being as narrowed as a specific word or work of literature. Furthermore, these text tattoos can also connote a less definitive meaning – like a questioning and curious personality, an excited or impassioned nature, or a deep, contemplative thinker. Sometimes, phrase tattoos are personal mottos and not works of literature. These can be quotations from famous personalities, like actors or political leaders. These can also be motivational, spiritual, inspiring, or encouraging phrases from anonymous sources.

    Tattoo of the word “Vegan”.

Author Shelley Jackson has written a literary work and is using the body modification community to publish her work. Since 2003, Jackson has accepted applications from fans and volunteers looking to be involved in the project. When she selects a volunteer, she assigns them a single word, which sometimes includes a mark of punctuation, also. There are rules the participant must adhere to, like certain fonts and ink color. The participant then gets the word tattooed in any size or location they wish. Upon completion, the person then receives a copy of Jackson's work and is, from that point forward, considered part of a living work of literature. Jackson believes that the story lives with those people, through those tattoos. As people die, Jackson says her story will evolve until all of the words (i.e. participants) are dead. At that point, the story will also be dead. This project has altered the way word tattoos are viewed. They are no longer just another medium for displaying printed words, but can also be the original publication.

    Prayer tattoo.

Of course, other tattoos that involve words and fonts, like names, nationalities, organizations or affiliations, and accomplishments are also included in the genre. Technically, any word or phrase that is incorporated into a larger tattoo design might count as word or phrase tattoo, although most word and phrase tattoos do not involve extra decorative elements or involved imagery. The text is usually the focus of the tattoo, rather than a supplement.
